eBay profit tracker built for US sellers

An eBay profit tracker for US sellers has to handle USD, eBay.com final value fees as charged, shipping you actually paid, and a calendar-year tax file. Flippedit connects through eBay's official API, pulls the fee eBay charged on each sale, then subtracts postage and cost of goods so you can track eBay sales without a spreadsheet that still thinks PayPal takes 2.9%.

Why US eBay sellers need a different tracker

Most “eBay profit tracker” templates still smell like 2018: PayPal 2.9% plus $0.30, a flat 13.25% final value fee, and a column named fees that nobody updates when eBay does.

US selling in 2026 is a different pile of leaks.

Fees are category, plan, and seller type. On eBay.com, most categories for business sellers sit around 13.6% of the total sale (item plus shipping, and often the sales tax eBay collected) up to $7,500, then 2.35% above that, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 or $0.40. Media categories can be 15.3%. Sneakers over $150 can be 8%. Guitars sit lower. Private sellers in the US often pay $0 transaction fees on everyday categories. A single percentage in a cell cannot cover that.

Managed payments killed the PayPal line, and a lot of sheets did not notice. eBay takes the fee and pays you. Adding 2.9% “for PayPal” on top of a final value fee is how people talk themselves out of items that were actually fine, or into items that were not.

Sales tax is usually not yours. eBay collects and remits it in most US states as the marketplace facilitator. If your sheet treats tax collected as revenue, your profit is fiction. If it ignores that the fee base can include tax, the fee line is short.

The tax year is the calendar year. US sellers rebuild January from Seller Hub, USPS receipts, and a 1099-K that is gross activity, not profit. A tracker should let you run 1 January to 31 December without fighting an Australian EOFY default.

Flippedit was built by an eBay seller and a developer who were tired of guessing the fee. The company is Flippedit Pty Ltd in Australia. The product is not Australia-only. It connects to eBay.com, prices in USD on this site when you pick that currency, and records fees as charged rather than as a blog post from last year.

Track eBay sales in the USA without guessing the fee

Flippedit connects to your eBay account through eBay's official API. You authorise it in eBay's own login. We never store your eBay password. Details sit on privacy and eBay data.

The fee line on each sale is the fee eBay charged that sale.

That is the only way a tracker survives a year when eBay retitles plans, zeros fees for some private sellers, and changes the per-order amount. You do not maintain a rate table. You look at the order.

Worked example, most categories, no ads, no Store discount. A $50 item with $10 shipping the buyer paid is a $60 fee base. 13.6% is $8.16. Add the $0.40 per-order fee and eBay already has $8.56 before promoted listings. Add the label you actually paid and the thrift-store cost, and the $50 listing is a different business. The general fee argument lives on eBay fees and true profit. This page is the US wrapper: USD, eBay.com, sales tax, and the 1099.

If you sell as a private seller with $0 transaction fees, Flippedit will show $0. That is not a bug. You still need cost of goods and shipping, because “no eBay fee” is how people start giving stock away.

1099-K, Schedule C, and what the tracker will not pretend to be

This is general information, not tax advice. Talk to a US accountant who sees eBay sellers.

What we will say plainly:

  • If you source to resell, the IRS generally treats that as a business, not a hobby with extra steps.
  • eBay issues information returns (including Form 1099-K) when you meet the thresholds in force for that year. Those forms report payments, not profit.
  • You pay tax on profit, not on gross sales. That only helps if you can prove costs.
  • Sales tax eBay collected and remitted is usually not income and not a deduction you invent.

Flippedit's job is the proof: sale, fee, postage, COGS, refund, expense, in a range you can set to the calendar year. The P&L page is the accountant-ready export. It was written with Australian EOFY in mind. The same report structure works for 1 January to 31 December. We do not file your 1040. We do not generate a 1099. We keep the numbers clean enough that the person who does those jobs is not reconstructing December from screenshots.

Shipping is a US profit problem too

US sellers underprice shipping constantly. A $18 toy with “free shipping” still needs a mailer, tape, a trip, and often a second label when the first one was light. If the tracker does not let you put that cost on the item, your best-selling SKU is the one destroying margin.

Flippedit attributes shipping you covered to the sale it belongs to. Combined with days-to-sell, you can see that a $12 profit that took 80 days and two labels was a worse use of capital than a $9 profit that cleared in a week.

Promoted listing fees sit on the sale they belong to. A 10% ad on a thin-margin item can erase the profit while Seller Hub still looks busy.

Mobile sourcing is the US use case

A lot of this market sources at Goodwill, garage sales, storage-unit leftovers, and Marketplace pickups, then lists from a phone. A tracker that only lives in a desktop sheet gets skipped on Saturday morning, which is when you decide whether to buy the next box.

Flippedit has an iPhone app and an Android app. Sales, profit, and the calculator travel with you. Register on the web first, connect eBay, then sign in on the app with the same details.

Track eBay sales in the USA on purpose

If you are searching “ebay profit tracker usa” or “track ebay sales united states,” you already know Seller Hub will not do cost of goods, and a PayPal-era sheet will not survive 13.6% plus ads plus a $0.40 order fee. You need software that is priced in USD, reads eBay.com fees as charged, and treats 31 December as a real deadline.

That is Flippedit. Start free 7-day trial, connect the store, and look at last month in USD after fees. Keep it if the number is finally honest.

Common questions

Is Flippedit an eBay profit tracker for the USA?

Yes. You connect an eBay.com account through eBay's official login. Fees, sales, refunds, and promoted listing costs come in as charged, in the currency of the store. Pricing on this page is in USD: $29 USD a month or $229 USD a year.

Does it use US final value fees or an Australian rate card?

Neither as a guess. Flippedit records the fee eBay charged on that order. If you are on 13.6% plus a $0.40 per-order fee, that is what you see. If you are a private seller with $0 transaction fees, you see $0. A sheet with 13.25% plus 2.9% plus $0.30 is leftover PayPal-era math.

Does Flippedit file my 1099-K or US tax return?

No. eBay issues information returns when you meet IRS thresholds. Flippedit is the profit ledger underneath: sales, fees, shipping, ads, refunds, and cost of goods for the calendar year. Your accountant maps that to the return. This is not tax advice.

Can I track eBay sales in the US on my phone?

Yes. Native iPhone and Android apps use the same account. Check last week's true margin between Goodwill stops instead of waiting for a laptop spreadsheet.

Do you collect US sales tax as if it were mine?

eBay usually collects and remits sales tax as the marketplace facilitator. That tax is not your profit. Flippedit tracks the sale, the fee eBay charged, and the costs you add. It is not a sales-tax engine for fifty states.
